A lot of people resist change in their lives because they are afraid of the unknown and how it will affect them. People get scared when they don’t know the future and would feel pressure by doing something they haven't originally done before. Change isn't an easy thing to do because it takes self-discipline to change from what someone has always done to doing something else. It would be even be harder to change something that is ordered by a higher up because their work wasn't something they were unhappy with in the first place and now they are forced to make a change. For example, imagine if you were working in a job that you really enjoyed and were doing a great job at it but then your boss told you that you are going to be moving to another department to work at different job with no increase in pay or anything. Your first reaction probably wouldn't be so great because you are happy with your job and good a great job and now you have to start working in a new department that you don't know what to do in. The idea that you would have to change something that you've always know would be hard to just be happy with but after you make a change you could discover that you like the change better then what it was before.
It's not just they change itself that have people wanting to resist but it's also the way the change is presented to them that effects how someone feels. If a leader were to say "here's a change you need to accept it" most likely no one would be happy with a change but if a leader were to say "we need to make a change because of so and so reasons" people would have a much better reaction. It’s important for the leader of change to explain the reason why the change is happening so that they understand why it's important to change and how it will affect the way they do things.
